When was the Last Time You Walked Barefoot?
We just had an extended weekend proudly celebrating the birth of our country 235 years ago. During these warm summer days, we have more opportunities than ever to walk barefoot in the grass or in the sand, but do we? We constantly see people walking the beach in their Nikes or other fitness shoes. In the name of health, we are all trying to do the "right" thing. We've been conditioned to think that we need shoes to support our arches, etc. to the point that when we try to go barefoot, it doesn't feel comfortable. Even back in the 1950s a study was done that found children who were allowed to go barefoot had:
- Greater agility
- Denser muscles on the bottom of their feet
- Less deformed toes
- Greater flexor strength
- More ability to spread their toes
- More flexibility of the gluteal and hamstring muscles
Add to this list the fact that wearing shoes blocks the beneficial electromagnetic radiation of the earth, which actually has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Earthing, also known as grounding, may be as fundamental as sunlight, air, water and nutrients. Our ancestors for most of history did not wear shoes and had this type of regular contact with the earth, either by walking, running or sleeping on the ground. In other words, they were grounded through much of the day, while most of us today are not. The scientific theory behind the health benefits of walking barefoot is that your body absorbs negative electrons from the Earth through the soles of your feet. That is the grounding effect.
Approximately 10 studies performed over the past 12 years by Clint Ober, co author of Earthing: The most important health discovery ever? support this hypothesis.
The studies indicate we can just touch the earth with our bare feet or our bare skin; sit down on the grass, and the transfer of free electrons from the earth- a grounding effect- is one of the most potent antioxidants we know of. Unfortunately, few people ever walk barefoot anymore to experience it.
Walking barefoot can also help ameliorate the constant irritation caused by EMFs and other types of radiation on our bodily systems from cell phones, computers and Wi-Fi. By getting outside, barefoot, touching the earth, and allowing the excess charge in your body to discharge into the earth, you can alleviate some of the stress put on your system.
So, if there is a local park or a beach nearby where you can easily get your shoes off and take a walk, this is really powerful in terms of helping to lessen inflammation in your body. Since most of us cannot go barefoot on the beach every day, you may want to consider grounding while you are working or sleeping with these earthing products:
