Lactose, or milk sugar, is derived from whey and like whey, it is useful in assisting in the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus in the G.I. tract.Included in Nourishing Traditions baby formulas, lactose is an essential addition to cow's milk as mother's milk is richer in lactose than cow's milk.
Lactose is about 20% as sweet as sugar and is a great milk additive for children. It is an easily dissolving powder.
