Wise Traditions Journal Teaches us About the Importance of Water

by Tom DiGiuseppe, Ph.D.

Mountain Spring Water. We immediately think of pristine, vibrant and life-giving water. Crystal clear water flowing from the highest mountain peaks filling our streams, rivers and lakes with healthy water, full of key nutrients and perfectly pH balanced to hydrate our bodies the way nature intended. If only all of us could find a local source of clean, natural spring water for our daily needs. Not only is water necessary for the growth and sustainability of our farms, pastures and gardens, properly hydrating our bodies with pure water is key to achieving optimum health and wellness.

The Winter 2015 issue of Wise Traditions, a quarterly publication of the Weston A. Price Foundation, focused on the subject of water. Three articles are featured, based on presentations at the Wise Traditions 2015 Conference held last November in Anaheim.

The first, by Professor Gerald Pollack of the University of Washington, discusses the “fourth phase of water”. As students, we all learned that water has three phases: solid, liquid and vapor. But only recently have we began to understand the many ways that water molecules can organize themselves. Dr. Pollack has researched the implications of this “fourth phase of water” (also described as “structured water”) and not only describes water’s unique properties and how it works in living organisms, but also outlines the implications for chemistry, physics, biology, as well as its central role in our health. His research has indicated that the water inside our cells is more “structured” and ordered than in bulk water.

In the second feature, Professor Marty Michener delves into the way water works in our bodies including how water’s properties keep our blood cells in suspension. He discusses how liquid behavior at healthy cell surfaces affect critical functions in living cells including the avoidance of absorbing aluminum into the bloodstream.

The third article by Norm LeMoine, President of Radiant Life, provides a global perspective on water challenges and discusses the impact that water toxins are having on our lifestyle and wellbeing. Norm outlines the contaminants present in our public water supplies, and gives readers specific options that address how to remove them from our drinking water. Creating truly pure water today is certainly a significant challenge!
